Studying “old news” whether close to the present or in the distant past can
be eye-opening. As a historian, I deal with mainstream, scholarly articles and other types
of documents from archival sources that present a “before and after”
picture of a particular historical event.
The historic "Brexit"
situation, a part of our recent past, is a good example of the need to study a
significant event that will have far-reaching effects around the world. Recent publications and articles published soon after the "Brexit" vote, for example, will assist one in grasping a picture of the dynamics which were of concern before and after
the United Kingdom's vote.
For readers already acquainted with the term and events surrounding the word "Brexit" and for those still trying to interpret its meaning in the headlines, this post lists some of the latest news articles before and after Brexit. First is a definition of Brexit, from the website Investopedia.com.
Next are the listing of articles appearing before the Brexit vote and then a few articles that have appeared since the Brexit vote.
(As usual, the URL for each of quoted material appears below the post. Please note that you should always quote the source of your material whenever you use another author's words, and place that author's sentences and phrases appropriately in quotation marks to distinguish from your own words. )
"BREXIT" Defined
Under “What is 'Brexit'" appears the following definition:
“Brexit is an abbreviation of "British exit", which refers to the June 23, 2016 referendum by British voters to exit the European Union. The referendum roiled global markets, including currencies, causing the British pound to fall to its lowest level in decades. Prime Minister David Cameron, who supported the UK remaining in the EU announced he would step down in October."
http://www.investopedia.com/terms/b/brexit.asp#ixzz4CkfgU2Hw
“. . . .[T]the June 23rd vote demonstrated that UK citizens believed that Great Britain can survive without the economic cooperation, trade agreements and partnerships that benefitted the country for the past several years. Brexit is tied in with Scotland's membership in the United Kingdom. Scotland had voted to remain in the European Union, and after the narrowly contested vote, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said in a statement on the Scottish National Party’s website that she would explore all options to remain in the EU.”
http://www.investopedia.com/terms/b/brexit.asp
“BREAKING DOWN 'Brexit'"
“Supporters of Brexit had based their opinion on a variety of factors from the global competitiveness of British businesses to concerns about immigration. Britain has already opted out of the EU's monetary union (meaning that it uses the pound instead of the euro) and the Schengen Area (meaning that it does not share open borders with a number of other European states). ‘Out’ campaigners argue that Brussels' bureaucracy is a drag on the British economy and that EU laws and regulations are a threat to British sovereignty."

Digital Jobs: tagged "administrative"
The below postings were found under one job-search engine, as you can see via the URL listed under each one. I pulled only a few of the recent post from the first few pages, yet as a whole more than one thousand posts appeared. Keep in mind however, in those one thousand postings the days go back a ways. Please note that any jobs I post on digitalResearcher might be deleted or no longer available at any time--as I have no control over the individual or entity posting a particular add.

job tip
When you see a job that you really like, keep tabs on that employer and or a particular department, section, or area for which that job was listed--whether you go through the process of applying for that job or not. The logic: you just might one day locate another significant job-post from that source. This means also checking that particular employer's website-listing of jobs. They could be still advertising posts on their website which have expired from other public postings--such as HigherEdJobs. com, or are just no longer posted anywhere except their own website. Good Luck!

Digital Jobs
An assortment of jobs will be presented periodically, at least once a week. Please note that these job ads are "time-sensitive." All of them have been located online in the last 24 hours before the posted date here on my Blog. There is no guarantee, however, that a job listed below will remain open. The entire URL is listed to indicate, of course, the location of the job ad, instead of renaming the link. Why? A savvy individual looking for a job in the digital field just might want to follow up on its location (instantly view its location), or that employer some time in the (near) future for any new job openings. Good Luck!

Digital Resource: African News Search Engine
Whether you are interested in browsing information on Africa, conducting business in Africa, or doing research on Africa, the search tool, "African News Search Engine," is worth exploring. Typically, I check out all URL addresses before posting. This one, though, has so many URLs that need to be checked, and time has not permitted me yet to do so. Thus, you may run up against some URLs that are defunct or no longer useful. Please feel free to notify me, so I can post here on this blog a note to readers.
According to its website, "This search engine searches through 255 news sources from Africa south-of-the-Sahara." The source of this text and access to this search engine can be found at:

Notice about "digitalResearcher"
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Hello "readers" of my digitalResearcher blog! I am currently in the process of creating this blog, yet quite anxious to share with you information on our "Digital World." I will be adding posts quite frequently, almost daily. Currently I am working on creating some manageable navigation bars, and also adding a feature for you to sign up and subscribe -- for free of course -- to my blog posts. I will be developing also an "About Me" tab, so that you can obtain more details on the focus of my blog. Essentially in a nutshell, I will be sharing information with you on Digital resources and information. There will be a strong focus on the fields of education and research. As I believe in an "open source" and an "open access" philosophy, --meaning not just in terms of software but also in terms of sharing information, the majority if not all of my posts will provide information on resources that are "free" for online access. Today, for example, and frequently overall, I will be posting information on a "Digital Resource." This information will also be headed as such in the title of the post. In the near future, I will add a tab called "Digital Resource" where you can access this information more rapidly, rather than having to sift through the blog posts.
Please note, for now, that I am an academic professional -- a college professor -- who believes firmly in crediting the source of my material properly. As needed I will embrace citation methods -- the standards -- and/or most likely a commonly used method of placing in quotation marks information obtained from an online source or fellow researcher, colleague, expert, etc. That source will be named and the URL for that source will be included, typically below the information. I ask that you do the same, when quoting or passing on information from my blog. In the meantime, please stay tuned. I guarantee that if you are interested in one place to go for information on our "Digital World" that this is a place you will want to embrace.
my best,
elizabeth carney
